The Strategic Advantages of Mumbai Colocation in India

India's most established data center market with unmatched connectivity, cloud access, and growth potential.

India's Largest Data Center Market

Mumbai is India's most established data center market, currently providing almost half of all Indian data center capacity. With a population of 26 million and GDP of $280 billion, Mumbai on the west coast serves as India's financial and business capital. As India climbs from the world's 5th largest economy today toward becoming the 3rd largest by 2027, Mumbai positions your infrastructure at the epicenter of unprecedented digital growth.

World-Class Submarine Cable Connectivity

Mumbai serves as a primary landing point for India's 17 major subsea connections, providing direct access to international bandwidth connecting the Middle East, Europe, and Southeast Asia. India's international bandwidth demand is forecast to increase tenfold by 2028, with a CAGR of 38%. Our facilities deliver carrier-neutral infrastructure with multiple carriers on-site, 200+ ISPs, and four major Internet Exchanges (AMS-IX, DE-CIX, Extreme-IX, and NIXI). With diverse fiber routes, dual meet-me-rooms, and direct cloud on-ramps to AWS, Azure, Google, and Oracle, Mumbai provides the densest interconnection ecosystem in APAC.

Strategic Government Incentives and Support

India's 'Digital India' initiative is transforming the country into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy, with data centers classified as infrastructure assets under the 2022-23 Budget. India's 2023 Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP), modeled on the EU's GDPR, drives enterprise demand for compliant data center infrastructure. With India targeting 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030 and offering open-access power purchase agreements, Mumbai provides a regulatory framework and incentives that support long-term infrastructure growth aligned with sustainability goals.

The city offers the most advanced and diverse power and fiber infrastructure in India, including multiple submarine cable links to the Middle East, Europe, and Southeast Asia. Mumbai's position as a primary landing point for the majority of India's 17 major subsea connections provides direct access to international bandwidth forecast to multiply tenfold by 2028. Most recent data center developments concentrate in the modern, fast-growing Navi Mumbai district, where Iron Mountain operates all three facilities.
