Iron Mountain unveils next-generation automated storage facility in Singapore
Advanced 2D shuttle automation and sustainable design redefine records management efficiency, safety, and capacity in Asia-Pacific.
As organizations navigate increasing regulatory requirements and spatial constraints, high-density, physical records management requires a bold shift toward digital-era automation. Iron Mountain is setting a new benchmark for modern logistics and asset protection with the opening of its upgraded Records and Information Management (RIM) facility in Singapore.
The upgraded facility replaces manual, aisle-based shelving with an automated 2D shuttle system. Using smart robotic shuttles within a high-density grid, records are brought straight to workers at fixed workstations, eliminating the need to drive machinery down aisles or lift heavy boxes at high elevations.
"By bringing automated shuttle technology into our Singapore facility, we’re changing how stored records are managed," says Lance Paczkowski, VP, Head of Global Operations Support and Head of Operations APAC. "Instead of workers walking long aisles and retrieving items by hand, smart technology brings the right records directly to them. It creates a safer, easier working environment for our team."
The facility delivers up to 3x capacity in the same footprint, reducing overall ground footprint by 130,000 square feet while delivering 3x–5x higher retrieval throughput. Integrated with solar energy and low-power battery operations, the Clementi Loop facility directly supports Iron Mountain and our customers’ ESG commitments while future-proofing critical document governance across the region.
To mark this milestone, Iron Mountain hosted an opening celebration. The event brought together leadership and local operations teams to celebrate both the technological advancement and people behind the facility. By upskilling local staff to operate advanced robotics, Iron Mountain continues to invest in Singapore’s workforce and economic future, blending human talent with modern automation.
